Fountain Lake Tournament Preview

The 16th annual 7-on-7 Fountain Lake Tournament will be this Saturday.  Last year's tournament was held at Magnet Cove due to artificial turf being installed at Fountain Lake, so this year the event will be held on the new turf.

The tournament's format consists of two divisions of 7 teams each - small school (2A and 3A) and large school (4A-6A).  Each team will play 6 games, one against each team in their division.  The top two teams in each division will play for their division championship.

Games will begin at 9 a.m. with the championships being held at approximately 5:45.

Large School Division: Benton, Clinton, DeWitt, Lake Hamilton, Nashville, Pulaski Academy, Russellville

Small School Division: Centerpoint, Fountain Lake, Magazine, Mansfield, Perryville, Russellville JV, Smackover

Nashville is the defending champion of the tournament and be looking to defend their title against some stiff competition.  Pulaski Academy and Lake Hamilton are ranked #1 and #3, respectively, in our mid-season top 10.  Many of the remaining members of the top 10 will be in Springdale for the Southwest Elite 7 on 7.  Russellville should fare better than their performance at the Shootout of the South as they should be closer to settling on their starting quarterback as they shuffled four players at the Shootout.  Clinton had a great 2010 season, so we're interested to see how they fare on Saturday.

In the small school division, Fountain Lake is the likely favorite; however, look for up and coming Mansfield and a very athletic Smackover team to challenge them.  Perryville has competed very well most years at this tournament.  Russellville's JV will also make some noise as they will likely be using quarterbacks that have experience against some very good competition.

  3. We don't have anything to do with who participates in these tournaments, we just write about them.

Fordyce will be in the SEARK Shootout on Tuesday. They were VERY impressive at the ASPC Summer Showdown.

We'll put an update on this as well, but we have learned that Pulaski Academy will be bringing their JV on Saturday as their varsity players will be heading to Washington DC for the Mel Kiper 7on7 Nat'l Championship next week.
