Review of "Saturday Morning Wake-Up Call" at Smashwords
Review by: Lonnie Martin on Dec. 09, 2012: star star star star
The authors understanding and description of high school football was deeply educational, even without the statistics tutorial. If high school coaches read this book, understand its points and apply its lessons I believe that they will become more successful. If you are not a coach I think you will still find the story told in the book to be very interesting.

2012 Playoff Week #5 Scores

The 2012 Arkansas high school football season was completed last Saturday night. The last weekend of the season saw three new state champions crowned. We correctly picked the winner of all three games, but we tend to think 2 out of 3 them were just pure luck (based on the closeness of the games). In 2A, we predicted a Junction City win in a Friday night "barnburner." We were not disappointed as the Dragons won the title with a 1-point margin of victory. In 3A, we did not believe that there was a clear favorite, so a coin toss gave us Harding Academy as our pick. The 3A title game was a 4-point win for HA in a game that saw the teams put up 93 total points. It was a classic state title shootout. In 4A, the Stuttgart Ricebirds took home the state title with an impressive 3 touchdown victory over the Ozark Hillbillies. The Ricebirds were clearly the better team on Saturday and had just one stumble this season during the Lonoke game in mid-October.

Later in the month, we will have our traditional helmet salute for all the Arkansas state champions for 2012 with schedule results. Thanks for checking in with us during this fantastic 2012 football season.

4A
  • Stuttgart 28, Ozark 7

3A
  • Harding Academy 49, Glen Rose 45

2A
  • Junction City 27, Bearden 26

2012 Playoff Week #5 Match-ups

This is playoff week #5 for the 2012 Arkansas high school football season - the FINAL week of high school football for 2012. The state titles will be awarded in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock for the state's smallest classifications (2A - 4A). The state championship game start times are listed with their preview below. Our picks for the winners are in BOLD.

4A
  • Stuttgart vs Ozark
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Saturday, December 8 @ 6:30 pm
Ozark has surprised us just a bit. Russ predicted that Arkadelphia would emerge from the Ozark side while Adam believed that Dollarway would fight through on that side. Be that as it may, the Hillbillies have proven to be a tough out. We are once again predicting that Ozark will end the season with a loss. That should make the folks in Ozark happy.

3A
  • Harding Academy vs. Glen Rose
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Saturday, December 8 @ 12:00 pm
Class 3A saw upsets all during the playoffs. We don't think either team is a heavy favorite unless you talk to the home town fans. We are picking Harding Academy in a coin flip. This should be an outstanding state title game.

2A
  • Junction City vs. Bearden
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Friday, December 7 @ 7:00 pm
The Junction City Dragons were one of our favorites to win it all. It is no surprise that either team is playing Friday night. We look for the Dragons to carry the trophy back to southeast Arkansas after a barnburner on Friday night.

2012 - Playoff Week #4 Scores

Three state champions were crowned last weekend in Little Rock, and the participants in three more fought their way into championship games. The Fayetteville Bulldogs grabbed the 7A state championship by spoiling a perfect season by the Bentonville Tigers for the 2nd year in a row. The Purple Dogs seem to be willing to allow the Tigers 7A West titles while they take home state titles. The Greenwood Bulldogs won their 3rd straight title - this time it's a 6A championship. We believe the Bulldogs will start next season with a 38-game winning streak. The Camden Fairview Cardinals finished out an undefeated season (14-0) with their victory over Batesville in the 5A state title game. There was only 1 member of the 50 point club this week, Greenwood with 51.

7A
  • Fayetteville 31, Bentonville 20

6A
  • Greenwood 51, Pine Bluff 44

5A
  • Camden Fairview 28, Batesville 10

4A
  • Ozark 28, Highland 25
  • Stuttgart 32, Prairie Grove 15

3A
  • Glen Rose 17, Prescott 14
  • Harding Academy 31, Fountain Lake 29

2A
  • Bearden 37, Mineral Springs 14
  • Junction City 42, Walnut Ridge 6

2012 Playoff Week #4 Match-ups

This is playoff week #4 for the 2012 Arkansas high school football season. The state titles will be awarded in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock for the state's largest classifications (5A - 7A). The play in the lower classification decides next week's participant at WMS. The games for 2A - 4A start at 7:00 pm, Friday, November 30. The state championship game start times are listed with their preview below. Our picks for the winners are in BOLD.

7A
  • Bentonville vs. Fayetteville
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Saturday, December 1 @ 6:30 pm
This is a re-match of the 2011 championship that Fayetteville won in a thriller. The Bentonville Tigers have lost just that one game in the last three years. The Tigers defeated the Purple Bulldogs on the road in Week #10, 24-17. We expect another tight game and believe that the Tigers will lift the trophy Saturday night.

6A
  • Greenwood vs. Pine Bluff
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Saturday, December 1 @ 12:00 pm
The Greenwood Bulldogs make another appearance in War Memorial Stadium - this time as a member of class 6A. The Zebras of Pine Bluff are no stranger to the title game, but it has been a few years since we have seen them take home the crown. The Bulldogs will make the title drought even longer for the Zebras in a high scoring championship game.

5A
  • Camden Fairview vs. Batesville
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Friday, November 30 @ 7:00 pm
The Batesville Pioneers broke up an anticipated match-up between Pulaski Academy and Camden Fairview with their upset of the Bruins last Friday. The Pioneers are a solid team and should give the Cardinals all they want in this 5A state championship game. We expect Camden Fairview to win a high scoring game, but we won't be shocked if the Pioneers take the trophy back to Northeast Arkansas.

4A
  • Ozark @ Highland
  • Prairie Grove @ Stuttgart

3A
  • Prescott @ Glen Rose
  • Fountain Lake @ Harding Academy

2A
  • Mineral Springs @ Bearden
  • Walnut Ridge @ Junction City

2012 - Playoff Week #1 Scores

Last Friday marked the beginning of the 2012 Arkansas high school football playoffs. We saw some outstanding games includes two 1-point barn-burners as Searcy defeated Siloam Springs 49-48 and Alma took down Little Rock Mills 21-20. The big upset happened in 4A as Mena (5th place team from the 4A-4) took out Arkadelphia (the winner of the 4A-7). In 2A, the defending state champs, Strong, blew out number 1 seed Hazen, 35-0. While Strong's win was an upset, the Bearcats win over Arkadelphia is the bigger story. The favorite for the 5A title lead the state in scoring as Camden Fairview put 70 and Pulaski Academy scored 62. Those two were joined in the 60+ club by Walnut Ridge that also scored 62. Here are the 50-point club members for week #1 of the playoff:
