2011 Playoff Week #4 Match-ups

Here are the match-ups for Week #4 of the 2011 Arkansas High School playoffs. This is championship week for the top three classes (5A, 6A, and 7A). Our picks are in BOLD. All games in the lower three classes (4A, 3A, and 2A) are Friday, December 2, 2012 at 7:30 pm.

7A
  • Fayetteville vs. Bentonville
    • War Memorial Stadium
    • Saturday, December 3, 2011 -- 12:00 pm
This game is a re-match of the Week #4 conference game that Bentonville dominated 41-6. The Tigers are aiming for their 26th consecutive win. Fayetteville has had a great season, but the Purple Dogs are running into "the machine" in War Memorial. Bentonville is head and shoulders above the field this year.

      6A
      • El Dorado vs. Lake Hamilton
        • War Memorial Stadium
        • Friday, December 2, 2011 -- 7:00 pm
Most observers saw this rematch coming after the Lake Hamilton Wolves defeated the Wildcats 31-24 in conference play during Week #8. These two teams have been the ones to beat in 2011. Although we pick the Wolves to win it all, we wonder if a rubber match shouldn't be set for next week if the Wildcats win this one in Little Rock. We wager that more than a couple of people would pay to see that.

      5A
      • Greenwood vs. Batesville
        • War Memorial Stadium
        • Saturday, December 3, 2011 -- 6:30 pm
Greenwood knows its way around War Memorial and dealt with what we believe was the #2 team in 5A in the semi-finals. The Pioneers will give Coach Jones and his Bulldogs a tough game, but the 5A trophy will be headed West one more time before Greenwood moves to 6A next season.

      4A

      • Farmington @ Malvern
      • Dollarway @ Pulaski Academy

      3A
      • Barton @ Prescott
      • Fountain Lake @ Charleston

      2A
      • East Poinsett County @ Carlisle
      • Strong @ Junction City

El Dorado is making its 4th straight trip to War Memorial and trying to win its 3rd straight title. Greenwood makes the trip to Little Rock to meet Batesville.  The lower classifications will set their finals next Friday night.

      2011 Playoff Week #2 Scores

Here are the 2011 Arkansas High School Football Week #2 scores.  Our correct picks are in blue while the misses are in red. We have grouped the bullets such that the winners are paired in the next round.

      7A
      • Fayetteville 49, Conway 28
      • Ft. Smith Southside 41, Ft. Smith Northside 24
      • Bentonville 42, West Memphis 14
      • North Little Rock 41, Springdale Har-Ber 37
We picked 3 of 4 correctly in 7A.  North Little Rock breaks up the 7A West invitational for the semi-finals.

      6A
      • Lake Hamilton 53, Sheridan 7
      • Pine Bluff 35, Searcy 14
      • Jonesboro 49, Texarkana 20
      • El Dorado 16, Marion 15

A perfect 4 of 4 for picks in 6A. The semi-final games should be fantastic.

      5A
      • Camden Fairview 56, Beebe 17
      • Greenwood 42, Wynne 7
      • Batesville 16, Greenbrier 6
      • White Hall 38, Hot Springs Lakeside 21

In 5A, we were 3 out of 4. It is a shame that the Fairview - Greenwood is not being played in Little Rock in 2 weeks.

      4A
      • McGehee 27, Clarksville 12
      • Farmington 28, Heber Springs 12
      • Nashville 28, DeQueen 21
      • Malvern 42, Prairie Grove 14

      • Pulaski Academy 57, Osceola 18
      • Pottsville 49, Clinton 16
      • Dollarway 26, Stuttgart 23
      • Gravette 48, Warren 33
We only hit 4 of 8 here in 4A as the 4A-1 showed surprising strength on the road against Heber Springs and Warren. Nashville was another surprise as they turned around an earlier loss to DeQueen. The game of the week next week will be Pottsville at Pulaski Academy.

      3A
      • Earle 48, Smackover 8
      • Prescott 56, Jessieville 16
      • Barton 23, West Fork 0
      • Arkansas Baptist 26, Camden Harmony Grove 6

      • Charleston 21, Fordyce 0
      • Harding Academy 42, Greenland 7
      • Rison 24, Glen Rose 21
      • Fountain Lake 37, Yellville-Summit 7

Barton ruined a perfect week for us in 3A (7 out of 8). Next week things get interesting in this class as Prescott travels to Earle and Fountain Lake visits Rison.

      2A
      • Carlisle 22, Danville 16
      • Gurdon 35, Spring Hill 7
      • East Poinsett County 35, Des Arc 6
      • Bearden 31, Mount Ida 6

      • Junction City 21, Mineral Springs 20
      • Magazine 34, Salem 2
      • Strong 33, Magnet Cove 14
      • McCrory 38, Hazen 12
We predicted 6 of 8 in 2A after last week's 14 out of 14.  The McCrory - Hazen game was a rematch that Hazen won the first time.  McCrory won the game that means more.

        2011 Playoff Week #1 Scores

The results of week #1 playoffs match-ups in the 2011 Arkansas High School Football playoffs are found below.  Since the fields are so large, they are very few surprises or upsets.  Look for the games to get better now that the field is moving toward the proper size.

        7A
        • Conway (1st - Central) -- BYE
        • Fayetteville 42, Little Rock Catholic 13
        • Ft. Smith Southside (2nd - West) -- BYE
        • Ft. Smith Northside 42, Bryant (35)
        • Bentonville (1st - West) -- BYE
        • West Memphis 41, Springdale 17
        • North Little Rock (2nd - Central) -- BYE
        • Springdale Har-Ber 21, Little Rock Central 16

We went 3 for 4 while the West did the same. The change of location didn't change the outcome for Bryant as we anticipated.

        6A
        • Lake Hamilton 38, Russellville 13
        • Sheridan 15, Jacksonville 10
        • Searcy 41, Little Rock McClellan 14
        • Pine Bluff 41, Van Buren 14
        • Jonesboro 42, Little Rock Fair 6
        • Texarkana 40, Mountain Home 0
        • El Dorado 55, Little Rock Parkview 12
        • Marion 42, Benton 33

A 7 for 8 week in the 6A. The only one we didn't get was a toss-up game. While we are happy to take the "padding" to our prediction stats, we think this shows that there are too many teams in the 6A playoffs.

        5A
        • Camden Fairview 28, Morrilton 21
        • Beebe 54, Watson Chapel 48
        • Greenwood 42, Central Arkansas Christian 7
        • Wynne 28, Monticello 6
        • Batesville 40, Helena/West Helena 6
        • Greenbrier 35, Arkadelphia 16
        • White Hall 37, Blytheville 20
        • Hot Springs Lakeside 40, Alma 14
We picked 6 of 8 in 5A. Lakeside ran over Alma while Beebe won a shootout out over Watson Chapel in our only misses.

        4A
        • McGehee (1st - 4A-8) -- Bye
        • Clarksville 42, Lonoke 35
        • Heber Springs 48, Shiloh Christian 35
        • Farmington 42, Dumas 6
        • Nashville 35, Highland 21
        • DeQueen 21, Booneville 16
        • Malvern 49, Gosnell 7
        • Prairie Grove 43, Mena 27

        • Pulaski Academy (1st - 4A-7) -- Bye
        • Osceola 14, Dardanelle 12
        • Pottsville 53, Newport 6
        • Clinton 56, Maumelle 21
        • Dollarway 34, Ozark 31
        • Stuttgart 36. Star City 29
        • Warren 48, Valley View 20
        • Gravette 30, Pocahontas 8
We hit 10 of 14 here in 4A.  We note that Ozark really got stuck with a bad draw and Farmington is much better than we realized.

        3A
        • Earle (1st - 3A-3) -- Bye
        • Smackover 48, Lincoln 12
        • Prescott 68, Lamar 27
        • Jessieville 28, Atkins 14
        • West Fork 46, Mayflower 21
        • Barton 21, Paris 8
        • Camden Harmony Grove 36, Bald Knob 14
        • Arkansas Baptist 62, Fouke 22

        • Charleston (1st - 3A-4) -- Bye
        • Fordyce 34, Hoxie 26
        • Harding Academy 48, Mountain View 6
        • Greenland 42, Riverview 21
        • Rison 42, Bismarck 7
        • Glen Rose 35, Rivercrest 3
        • Yellville-Summit 39, Mansfield 7
        • Fountain Lake 60, Harrisburg 6
        An 11 of 14 week in 3A.

        2A
        • Carlisle (1st - 2A-6) -- Bye
        • Danville 56, Clarendon 20
        • Gurdon 37, Cross County 6
        • Spring Hill 52, Norphlet 24
        • East Poinsett County 68, Dierks 14
        • Des Arc 44, Quitman 22
        • Bearden 34, Hackett 21
        • Mount Ida 31, Bigelow 19

        • Junction City (1st - 2A-8) -- Bye
        • Mineral Springs 62, Poyen 0
        • Magazine 41, Hampton 6
        • Salem 35, England 14
        • Magnet Cove 28, Union Christian 6
        • Strong 35, Mountainburg 28
        • McCrory 62, Conway Christian 43
        • Hazen 40, Walnut Ridge 37
We picked a perfect week (14 of 14) in 2A.  The only noteworthy thing this week in 2A is the fact that a lot of teams traveled a long way to get their whuppin'.
